Bursitis

A bursa is a fluid-filled sac near your joints that sits between the bones and the surrounding muscles and tendons. It provides a cushion for these structures and helps the muscles and tendons glide easier over the bones. Bursitis is an inflammation of these sacs often caused by trauma, extensive pressure on the bursa, or repetitive motion of the joint.  

Symptoms

  • Swelling around a joint
  • Redness and warm to touch
  • Stiff and achy joint
  • Tenderness with touching or moving the affected joint  

Treatment

  • Ice Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Avoid prolonged pressure on or repetitive motion of the joint
  • Physical therapy
  • Steroid injections
  • Laser therapy
